US fiber firm Cogent is set to sell two data centers it acquired from Sprint.

In October 2025, Cogent entered into a letter of intent to sell two data centers it acquired and repurposed in connection with its Sprint acquisition for $144 million in cash.

Details on which two facilities were set to be sold weren’t shared, but during the company’s Q3 2025 earnings call, Cogent CEO Dave Schaeffer said it was two of the largest of 24 wholesale facilities Cogent had repurposed.

The seller wasn’t named, but Schaeffer called them a “credible counterparty.”

“We are very pleased with the price per megawatt, and it is definitely within the range that we would have anticipated for the entire portfolio,” he said.

T-Mobile sold its wireline business to Cogent for just $1 in September 2022. Much of what was sold was Sprint‘s legacy US long-haul fiber network, which T-Mobile had acquired as part of its $26 billion merger with Sprint in 2020.

Cogent’s acquisition included hundreds of technical buildings and switch sites previously used for Sprint’s wireline business. Cogent has since set about converting the largest 48 into colocation data centers (since updated to 52). Last year, it also jumped into the Edge market, converting a further 55 smaller sites into colocation facilities and another 24 in Q1 2025, and a further seven in Q2 2025.

After originally only looking to offer retail colo space at each site, Cogent pivoted to also offering 23 of the former Sprint properties on a wholesale basis – since revised to 24. The company is looking at either leasing the sites wholesale or selling them outright and potentially leasing back a small part for its own network needs.

During the earnings call, Schaeffer said Cogent has a “number” of other potential deals in negotiations, and has “essentially completed” the integration of the Sprint network and the repurposing of the facilities that the company deems appropriate for data center use.

Cogent now has 86 Edge data centers and 100 core data centers. In total, Cogent operates 186 facilities with around 2.1+ million square feet (195,000 sqm), 26,100 server cabinets, and 214MW owned. The company had 101 core facilities last quarter, suggesting a potential exit from one (likely leased) facility.

Overall, Cogent’s revenue for the quarter was $241.9 million. EBITDA as adjusted was $73.8 million for the quarter.
