China Mobile is mulling a possible sale of its minority stake in Thai telecoms operator True Corporation.

Bloomberg reported this week that China Mobile is working with an adviser to gauge initial interest from prospective buyers in its 7.8 percent stake in True.

True is a joint venture between Charoen Pokphand and Telenor, which was formed by the merger between the original True Corporation and DTAC. The company has close to 50 million mobile subscribers.

In the past year, shares in True have jumped 30 percent, giving the company a market value of about $14.7 billion. This would value China Mobile’s holding at around $1.1bn, reports Bloomberg.

Telenor previously sold its 30 percent stake in True to digital service provider Arise Digital Technology for NOK 39 billion ($3.9 billion) earlier this year.

True has a number of subsidiaries, including True Digital and True Internet Data Center (IDC). True Digital is described as promoting the adoption of digital transformation across industries and developing Thailand's digital infrastructure.

Last year, Microsoft partnered with Charoen Pokphand and True Corporation for its Thailand cloud region, with True IDC serving as a key data center partner.

Meanwhile, China Mobile is the largest mobile carrier in the world, with more than 1 billion mobile subscribers and hundreds of millions of broadband customers.
