Microsoft is partnering with Charoen Pokphand Group and True Corporation on its cloud region in Thailand.

Under the partnership, the True Internet Data Center (True IDC) will serve as one of the data centers for Microsoft's Thai cloud region.

The partnership aims to enable low-latency, high-reliability services for customers in Thailand while meeting data residency requirements, while also strengthening the country's AI and cloud capabilities.

Sigve Brekke, executive chair of telecommunications and digital business group of Charoen Pokphand Group Co., Ltd., and group CEO of True Corporation Plc., added: “The partnership between CP Group, True, True IDC and Microsoft represents a powerful alliance to propel Thailand into the AI and Cloud era. Our collaboration focuses on three key areas: driving Cloud & AI Transformation to elevate the nation’s technological capabilities; co-developing joint go-to-market strategies to expand AI and cloud adoption across public and private sectors; and strengthening Digital Infrastructure through True IDC’s data centers, which support Microsoft’s cloud datacenter in Thailand."

Microsoft revealed plans for a cloud region in May 2024, though details at the time were sparse. It followed a 2023 commitment to invest $2.85 billion in the country.

True IDC is a subsidiary of CP Group. It operates data centers in Thailand, Myanmar, and Vietnam. The company's Thailand data center is scalable up to 60MW and capable of housing high-density compute infrastructure.

Earlier this year, Global Infrastructure Partners revealed plans to invest more than $1bn in True IDC.
