Australian Data Centres (ADC) has acquired a campus in Canberra.

The company this week announced the acquisition of a new data center campus in the Fyshwick area of Canberra, as it works to expand its footprint across Australia.

Further details on the acquisition were not shared. ARN reports, however, that the site was acquired from Verizon.

“It strengthens our ability to meet increasing demand for secure, high-availability facilities that underpin government and enterprise digital services,” said ADC CEO Mark Pont. “The new site has been fully integrated into our existing operations, has been Certified Strategic under the Hosting Certification Framework, and provides additional optionality and redundancy. Our priority is to provide customers with differentiated options in Canberra and at growth sites across Australia.”

On its website, ADC lists a second Canberra site in Mitchell, and plans for a 300MW site in Melbourne, Victoria. The Mitchell site launched around 2014.

Verizon has had a data center in Fyshwick for more than 15 years. The company expanded the site in 2013.

An online brochure from Verizon suggests the facility, built around 2009, is located at 105 Gladstone Street and offers 600 sq ft (55 sqm) of raised floor space.

ADC COO, Matt Holden, said both its Canberra sites were operational now with some available capacity.

“ADC has growth plans for this data center campus, with a significant capital works program now underway to uplift the capacity of the facility,” ADC CEO Pont added to ARN.

CDC also has a data center in the Fyshwick area of the city.
