Australian data center firm CDC has filed to develop a new campus in Sydney.

In a SEARS application with the New South Wales government, CDC has filed to develop a data center at 871-901 Mamre Road in Kemps Creek, in the west of Sydney.

The 88.4-hectare project would include one large building and an on-site substation building. The four-story KC1 building would total 144MW of capacity across 34,000 sqm (365,970 sq ft).

Up to AU$1.8 billion (US$1.2bn) could be invested in the project.

The site, covering four parcels of land, contains two dwellings and several agricultural sheds and structures, including paddocks, cattle sheds, and chicken sheds from a former chicken farm.

Sydney is a major data center hub in Australia and the APAC region. Microsoft, Stockland, and ISPT are all known to be developing around the Kemps Creek area.

Founded in 2007 and backed by investment firm Infratil, CDC has nearly 20 sites in operation and development across Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, and Auckland, New Zealand.

It has more than 600MW of data center capacity in operation and development across Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, and New Zealand (70MW). The company’s future development pipeline now totals a further 1.6GW out to 2034.

Sydney is currently home to two CDC campuses, Eastern Creek and Marsden Park.

Eastern Creek has four buildings live – EC1 offers 7MW, EC2 20MW, EC3 42MW, and EC4 54MW. Work started on the site in 2018, and two more are under construction (EC5 and EC6) that could total more than 100MW.

Still in development, Marsden Park could offer more than 504MW of capacity with potential to scale to around 1GW. The company broke ground on the site in late 2024.
