The deal, first reported by bnamericas, is worth an estimated $500 million and will see Casa dos Ventos supply the power under a self-production model.

The deal is tied to the under-development Dom Inocencio wind farm in Piaui state, and the Paraiso solar project in Mato Grosso do Sul. Combined, the projects have a capacity of more than 1.5GW and are expected to commence operations in 2027. The contract will also provide Ascenty equity interest in the projects.

“Ascenty operates in a sector that is at the heart of the digital transformation. Providing renewable energy through this agreement highlights Casa dos Ventos’ role in supporting the country’s new infrastructure and innovation demands. Our partnership was guided by the complementarity of renewable energy sources, robustness of supply, and a long-term vision,” said Lucas Araripe, Casa dos Ventos’ executive director.

According to the companies, the contract will increase operational flexibility and provide more robust energy planning for Ascenty over the contract's term. In addition, the agreement is expected to enable the data center developer to avoid approximately five million tons of CO2 emissions over the coming years.

“This initiative represents the strengthening of our decarbonization strategy. The combination of renewable energy sources and the security of a long-term supply offers greater predictability for the growth of our operations throughout Latin America,” says Christopher Torto, CEO of Ascenty.

“For us, working with clean and renewable energy means enabling new digital capabilities. By aligning energy efficiency with technological innovation, we create the foundations for our data centers to support, in a scalable way, the potential of artificial intelligence, driving advanced solutions for clients and strategic sectors in the region.”

Founded in 2010, Ascenty is currently owned through a joint venture that was set up by Brookfield and Digital Realty in 2018 when they purchased the firm for $1.8bn.

Both companies hold a 49 percent stake, with Ascenty founder and CEO Chris Torto owning the remaining two percent. The company has 36 facilities, with 24 in operation and 12 under construction or development across Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and Colombia.

In July of last year, the company announced plans for a new 47MW facility in São Paulo, Brazil.

Casa dos Ventos is one of Brazil's largest renewable energy developers. It has an operating and under-development portfolio of approximately 33.4GW of wind and solar projects, including 12GW in a joint venture with French energy giant TotalEnergies.

In recent years, the company has taken aim at the data center sector. In June, it was revealed as the company behind a 300MW data center in northeast Brazil, tied to TikTok owner ByteDance. Before this, in October 2024, the company signed a long-term supply agreement with Latin American data center developer OData to supply power from its 360MW Babilônia Sul wind complex in Várzea Nova, Bahia, Brazil.
