OData has signed a long term supply agreement with Casa dos Ventos for energy from the Babilônia Sul wind complex in Várzea Nova, Bahia, Brazil.
The project consists of 80 turbines with a total capacity of 360MW. An undisclosed percentage of its capacity will be offset to OData’s Brazilian data center portfolio.
Casa dos Ventos holds a 100 percent ownership stake in the project, which is currently under construction and slated for commissioning in late 2024.
“Brazil is very well positioned to meet the expansion of the data center industry. We have an abundant supply of cost-competitive renewable energy globally, a clean energy matrix, and the capability to quickly connect loads for new data centers - which other regions lack," says Lucas Araripe, executive director of Casa dos Ventos.
The supply agreement is part of OData's broader push to expand its data center footprint within Latin America while adhering to its commitment to powering all its assets with 100 percent renewable energy.
OData’s current Latin American portfolio comprises five data centers in Brazil, four in Mexico, two in Chile, and one in Colombia that is in operation and one under construction.
In total, OData has an operational capacity of 230MW across its Latin American assets.
Ricardo Alário, CEO of OData, commented on the agreement's importance for the firm, stating: “Casa dos Ventos has tailored energy solutions and its portfolio of renewable assets and structured products to meet the needs and requirements of data centers.”
The agreement with Casa dos Ventos follows an expansion of a wind supply agreement with Serena Energia for capacity from its 212MW Assuruá wind farm in Xique-Xique, Bahia, Brazil.
The increase is tied to a new agreement with Serena Energia and represents a 135 percent increase in contracted volume from the wind farm.
The parties signed an initial agreement in March 2023 when OData acquired a minority stake in the project.
