Singapore has allocated 200MW of power capacity to four data center firms.

The Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) said that Digital Realty, Equinix, Keppel Data Centers, and ST Telemedia Global Data Centers will each be allocated 50MW of new capacity.

Full details of each company's planned development weren't shared.

The Singapore government allocated the capacity through its second Data Center Call for Application (DC-CFA2). The initiative was launched in December of last year, with applications closing in April. The initiative supports the country’s Green Data Center Roadmap, which outlines plans to scale up digital infrastructure sustainably.

Under the agreement, 50 percent of the data centers' capacity must be supplied by low-carbon energy sources, such as biomethane, low-carbon ammonia, or hydrogen. In addition, the companies have committed to exceeding the minimum sustainability requirements imposed under the initiative and will deploy liquid cooling technology on the sites.

According to a statement, the initiative spurred significant interest, with more than 20 proposals received from local and global players. The data centers are expected to be located on Jurong Island, a man-made island southwest of Singapore, which serves as Singapore's primary hub for the petroleum, chemical, and energy industries.

The data centers will be located at a low-carbon data center park on the island, being developed by JTC, Singapore's lead government agency under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, responsible for developing industrial infrastructure and master-planning smart and green estates. The data centers are expected to leverage the low-carbon park to power their installations.

The development timeline for the data centers was not disclosed.

Keppel said, however, that its allocation will support the development of Keppel Data Centre Singapore 11 (Keppel DC SGP 11) on Jurong Island. The S$1 billion project will be developed by Keppel and funded by Keppel Data Centre Fund III and its co-investors.

Digital Realty said its capacity allocation will be deployed at new data center at Jurong Town Corporation’s low-carbon data center park on Jurong Island.

All four of the chosen data center operators have a presence in Singapore. At present, Equinix operates five data centers, Digital Realty operates three, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres operates nine, and Keppel Data Centres manages six facilities across Singapore.

“As a Singapore-grown and headquartered company, we are deeply honoured to be selected under DC-CFA2. We recognise the privilege and responsibility that come with being entrusted to develop critical digital infrastructure and we are committed to using Singapore’s precious land, energy and water resources prudently to deliver meaningful and lasting value for the country,” said Bruno Lopez, president and group CEO, STT GDC.

Digital Realty added: "Singapore is a key hub for Digital Realty, housing our Asia Pacific office and Global Command Center, with total potential investment reaching nearly S$7 billion."

Singapore has had a moratorium on new data center developments since 2019 (although already authorized facilities were allowed to be built after this point), but this is starting to be relaxed.

Equinix, GDS, Microsoft, and a consortium of AirTrunk and TikTok-owner ByteDance were collectively allocated 80MW of capacity in 2023. Plans for a second call were announced in late 2025.

The EDB and IMDA said they will review the need for another DC-CFA to allocate further data center capacity in 18 to 24 months.
