APAC data center firm AirTrunk has energized a rooftop solar array at its SYD1 data center in Western Sydney, Australia.

The solar array, the capacity of which AirTrunk did not disclose, was installed at the 130MW hyperscale campus located in Huntingwood. The facility spans more than seven hectares and features 42 data halls across five buildings. The company completed construction at the site in July 2022.

The rooftop array is AirTrunk's second, which it has installed at one of its data center sites. Earlier this month, the company announced the completion of a 1MW rooftop solar array at its JHB1 data center in Johor, Malaysia.

Jonty Terry, technical services manager, AirTrunk, said: “Introducing solar power at SYD1 is a key step in reducing emissions and enhancing sustainability. By integrating clean energy into our operations, we’re supporting the transition to a more sustainable and resilient energy system.”

Founded in 2018, AirTrunk was acquired by Blackstone and CPPIB for US$16.1 billion in 2024 in what was the largest-ever deal in the space at the time.

AirTrunk has data center campuses in operation and development in Sydney (x3) and Melbourne (x2) in Australia, as well as Singapore; Hong Kong; Johor, Malaysia; Tokyo (x2), and Osaka (x2), Japan.
