Course Description

A fire can be a major catastrophe for business operations. The damage caused from heat, smoke and water is detrimental to IT equipment and could be expensive to repair. This course explains the advantages and disadvantages of different fire detection systems including smoke detectors, heat detectors, flame detectors and suppression systems such as wet-pipe, dry-pipe, pre-action, watermist and gaseous chemical systems.

  • Identify the four stages of a fire
  • Compare function and operation of addressable alarm systems against the conventional alarm system
  • State the Fire and Building Codes applicable to fire protection and the NFPA codes associated with early and very early warning fire detection systems
  • Identify the appropriate use of various smoke, flame and heat detection systems
  • Recognize the proper use of each fire prevention system based on facility type
  • Compare the advantages and disadvantages of each fire suppression system
