Peter Gross

Managing Partner, PMG Associates

Peter Gross is an internationally recognized expert in technology and energy, with a career spanning more than three decades. He is currently the Managing Partner of PMG Associates, a consulting and advisory firm, and serves on the boards of directors and advisory boards of numerous public, private, and nonprofit organizations. Until August 2019, Peter led the Mission Critical Systems group at Bloom Energy, a leading manufacturer of solid oxide fuel cells. Prior to joining Bloom Energy, he was Managing Partner of Hewlett-Packard’s Consulting Services, where he focused on carbon, power, and critical facilities, with responsibility for strategic technology planning and business development. Earlier, he co-founded and served as CEO of EYP Mission Critical Facilities, a premier consulting and engineering firm specializing in the design and operation of data centers. Under his leadership, the firm experienced rapid growth following its founding in 1997, culminating in its acquisition by Hewlett-Packard in 2008. Peter is widely regarded as a thought leader in mission-critical information, communication, and infrastructure design. He has published numerous technical papers and is a frequent speaker at international conferences. His expertise spans mission-critical facilities, high-reliability design, power quality, energy systems, and sustainability. He has been at the forefront of several innovations that have shaped the evolution of the data center industry. He is a co-inventor on patents related to modular, prefabricated FlexDC systems, direct current power distribution topologies in data centers, and fuel cell-based data center architectures. Peter is the recipient of the 2024 Data Center World Lifetime Achievement Award and the 2010 Data Center Dynamics “Outstanding Contribution to the Industry” Award. He also received the 2020 Outstanding Contribution to the Digital Infrastructure Community Award and has been inducted into the Infrastructure Masons Hall of Fame. A Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a Registered Professional Engineer, Peter contributed to IEEE Standard 3006.7-2013, Recommended Practice for Determining the Reliability of 24/7 Power Systems in Industrial and Commercial Facilities. Peter currently serves as Chairman of Cato and sits on the boards of Aligned Data Centers, Edgevana, Apolo Cloud, Overwatch, and IDCA. He also chairs the advisory councils of Vertiv and Bloom Energy and serves as an advisor to EnerSys, Lancium, Crusoe, VIER, and Rehlko. In addition, he is an External Advisor to Bain & Company, an Advisory Council Partner, and a Master of Infrastructure Masons. He serves on the Advisory Board of the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, the Data Center Systems Engineering Board of Advisors at Southern Methodist University Lyle School of Engineering and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Ballet.
