Pan-African data center firm Wingu.Africa has secured new funding to fuel its roll-out.

The company this week announced it has secured $60 million in funding from Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) to support the development of digital infrastructure in Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Tanzania.

“This is not just an investment in infrastructure, it’s an investment in Africa’s digital independence,” said Anthony Voscarides, group CEO at Wingu. “We’re expanding the capacity that will empower innovation, accelerate economic growth, and connect Africa to the future.”

Wingu.Africa operates data centers in four countries, with two facilities in Djibouti, one in Somaliland, another in Tanzania, and one data center in Ethiopia. Wingu is owned by its founders and Africa Capitalworks, a sub-Saharan African mid-market investment company.

The company said is has “active expansion” works going on in Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Tanzania.

RMB, a division of FirstRand Bank Limited, is an African corporate and investment bank. It has prviously provided financing to WIOCC’s Open Access Data Centers and Cassava Technologies-owned Africa Data Centres.
