Texas gas generation provider VoltaGrid has partnered with US oil services company Halliburton to develop and deploy distributed power generation systems for the global data center sector, with an initial rollout in the Middle East.

The partnership plans to combine VoltaGrid’s experience in distributed power and energy with Halliburton’s global operational reach and infrastructure capabilities. Together, the companies intend to design, build, and operate scalable, efficient power systems to meet the growing demand for reliable, lower-emission energy in the data center sector.

Under the terms of the agreement, the companies plan to integrate turbines, reciprocating engines, and VoltaGrid’s proprietary QPac platform to deliver turnkey distributed generation solutions for data centers.

The Qpac platform is a modular natural gas power system, with each reciprocating node generating up to 20MW of power. According to VoltaGrid, the nodes can be combined to deliver upwards of 200MW of prime power under a minor source air permit. The solution was officially launched in January of this year in partnership with gas engine developer Jenbacher.

As part of the agreement, Halliburton will provide access to its logistics network and regional regulatory experience, while VoltaGrid will bring its engineering design, technology development, and procurement experience. The companies claim that the partnership will offer enhanced reliability and execution certainty for data center operators, particularly in emerging markets.

VoltaGrid has already signed several major deals with data center operators to supply them with dispatchable generation. Last week, the company struck a 2.3GW deal to supply power to cloud computing company Oracle to power its AI data centers.

Before this, in February, the company partnered with Vantage Data Centers to deploy 1GW of off-grid natural gas generation across its North American portfolio.

Last August, it agreed to supply the Elon Musk-owned xAI Memphis data center with 14 mobile generators, each capable of providing 2.5MW, adding 35MW of power capacity.
