Revised lay-off proposals put forward by telco MásOrange have been rejected by unions in Spain.

Servimedia reported that last week MásOrange put forward a proposal to unions that would see its planned job cuts reduced by 50, meaning that the layoffs would impact 745 people as opposed to the 795 the company initially announced.

The telco, formed earlier this year following the completion of Orange and MásMóvil, set out plans to lay off staff last month.

MásOrange, which has more than 30 million customers, previously said that it expects the move to save $541.89 million per year by the fourth year of the deal's closure.

However, the unions have rejected the offer, even threatening to strike later this month, as per Valenciaplaza.

A number of unions including, CCOO, UGT, USO, ELA, and CGT have called a half-day strike at MasOrange for October 15 in protest against the Employment Regulation File (ERE) that the company is negotiating with the workers' representatives.

Last month, Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT), said it rejects the planned cuts, claiming that it "further contributes to the destruction of well-trained, well-paid jobs."

Earlier this year, UGT tussled with another Spanish carrier, Vodafone, over job cuts.

The union managed to reduce the amount of job losses by a quarter. UGT reached an agreement to terminate the employment of 898 workers at the telco after it had initially been expected that 1,200 people would lose their jobs.
