Thai energy company Gulf has set up a new holding company for its data center investments.
In a Thailand stock exchange announcement this week, Gulf Development Public Company Limited said it has set up a new firm, Gulf Edge Data Center Company Limited (GEDC).
Wholly owned through Gulf Edge Limited, GEDC aims to focus on the development and provision of data center services, as well as other related businesses and services supporting the operation of data centers.
With roots back to 1994, Gulf owns some 23GW worth of gas and renewable power plants across Thailand, Vietnam, and the US. The company also operates in the telecoms sector through AIS and satellite firm Thaicom.
To date, the company has invested in data centers through GSA Holdings Limited. It holds stakes in multiple projects.
GSA 01 in Samut Prakan province is set to total 25.6MW. GSA 02 in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) in Chonburi province will offer 38MW and is due live in Q1 2027.
GEDC 01, will offer 100MW. Under construction in the EEC zone in Rayong Province, it is due live in Q4 2027.
Gulf has also set up holding companies for its GEDC 02, GEDC 03, and GEDC 04 projects.
The newly established GEDC will take a 70 percent stake in the Gulf Edge Data Center 01 (GEDC01) project, and will also serve as a holding company to support further investments.
Gulf’s Gulf Edge unit has previously signed a "strategic partnership" agreement with Google Cloud for access to AI infrastructure.
Last year, Gulf announced that its GSA02 project will host Microsoft.
Gulf and AIS have previously partnered with Singtel and its data center unit Nxtra on a 20MW data center outside Bangkok.
