Teraco has completed its eighth data center in South Africa.

Writing on LinkedIn, the Digital Realty-owned firm said the new data center in Johannesburg, JB5, brings total capacity at its Isando campus in the city to 70MW.

“Purpose-built to meet global hyperscale requirements, JB5 underscores our commitment to sustainability and operational excellence,” Teraco said.

Teraco broke ground on the data center in 2022. It comprises 12, 1,000 sqm (10,763 sq ft) data halls, served by a closed-loop chilled water system incorporating 100 percent free air cooling. Teraco says this enables “zero water usage for ongoing cooling operations.”

It is the third data center at the Isando campus, with a fourth, JB7, due to come online in 2026, increasing capacity at the campus by 40MW.

Founded in 2008, Teraco also operates the Bredell Campus in Jo’burg (featuring JB2/JB4 and totaling 63MW), the Cape Town Campus in Brackenfell (CT1/CT2, totaling 53MW), and a 2MW facility in Durban.

Digital Realty acquired a majority stake in Teraco in January 2022, in a deal valuing the company at approximately $3.5 billion.
