Telekom Malaysia is expanding two of its data centers.
The company this week announced TM Global, TM’s wholesale business arm, will expand its Klang Valley data center (KVDC) in Cyberjaya and Iskandar Puteri data center (IPDC) in Johor.
Scheduled for commercial operations in 2025, the second phase of both facilities will deliver a combined IT load of about 20MW. Both sites will be Uptime III-quality and LEED-certified.
Khairul Liza Ibrahim, TM Global’s EVP, said: “KVDC and IPDC are integral infrastructures in Malaysia’s digital ecosystem, serving as international gateways and interconnected points to support 5G networks. This second phase of our data center expansion will feature sustainable designs, boosting our capacity to support hyperscalers, OTT players, cloud, and next generation AI providers, as well as enterprises.”
KVDC launched in 2019, the site offers 90,000 sq ft (8,300 sqm) of white space and up to 25MVA of capacity. Launched in 2017, IPDC also has around 90,000 sq ft (8,300 sqm) of white space. The twin facilities were first announced in 2016.
As well as the two core facilities in Klang Valley and Johor, TM currently operates four other data centers and seven Edge facilities across Malaysia and one in Hong Kong. According to a company sales brochure, its current portfolio totals 16MW and 211,700 sq ft (19,665 sqm) of white space.
The company has also partnered with Singtel’s Nxera unit to develop another data center in Johor. The first 64MW phase is due to launch in 2026 – it can be scaled to 100MW.
TM is also part of the Asia Link Cable Systems (ALC) partnership, a 7,200km, 24 Tbps cable. The cable’s landing station will be located at the TM Exchange Kuala Sedili in Johor.
