T-Mobile for Business has been selected as the official telecoms service provider for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.

As part of the contract, T-Mobile's 5G network will be deployed by its business unit at the games.

“T-Mobile for Business will play a crucial role in connecting Games stakeholders to the action as events unfold at more than 110 connected locations - including more than 40 competition venues - across Southern California," said David Michael, chief information officer for LA28.

T-Mobile will support event operations with its network, while providing connectivity to the event.

The carrier will provide its 5G Advanced Network Solutions (5G ANS) at competition venues and numerous non-competition venues across Southern California.

The telco will also connect more than 15,000 staff with its push-to-talk services, while it will connect essential staff through voice lines with SuperMobile, its new business phone connectivity plan that offers nationwide network slicing, built-in security, and satellite coverage. T-Mobile notably has a D2D satellite service with Starlink.

T-Mobile notes that its 5G network will also support point-of-sale systems and event ticketing by utilizing new technologies such as network slicing.

On top of this, the carrier will provide connectivity for broadcasts at the Games. The carrier said it "will provide the secure, low-latency connection between the International Broadcast Center (IBC) — the central hub for all broadcast operations — and all competition venues."

T-Mobile 5G will support the Olympic Broadcasting Services (the host broadcaster of the games) as it connects to more than 100 broadcasters globally.

The carrier said it will also use the games to showcase AI use cases to enhance fan engagement, operational efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
