Swedish telco Telia has confirmed that the company will cut 600 jobs.

It comes a few weeks after reports emerged that the carrier was preparing to reduce its headcount during the first quarter of this year.

Telia confirmed those reports as the carrier reported its quarterly earnings today (January 29).

"In line with our commitment to continuous improvement, we initiated union negotiations in January 2026 concerning a proposed reduction of approximately 600 positions, while opening 150 new positions in growth areas such as business- and mission-critical connectivity, national data sovereignty, and security," stated Telia.

The cuts equate to around four percent of Telia's total workforce, although the company didn't disclose what positions will be cut.

Telia employs more than 16,000 people across the Nordic and Baltic region. The company operates in Sweden, Finland, Norway, plus the Baltic nations of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

It's just over a year since Telia laid off 3,000 workers, around 15 percent of its then-workforce.

The layoffs come despite the carrier reporting increased revenue for the full year 2025. Telia posted revenue of SEK 81.0 billion ($9.16bn), up 1.8 percent year-on-year (YoY).

Telia also reported an increase of 1.5 percent in service revenue, which the company noted was driven by Sweden, the Baltics, and other operations. Total net income declined to SEK 4.3 billion ($486 million).

Patrik Hofbauer, Telia CEO, said 2025 "was a year of significant progress for Telia."

Hofbauer said: "Our customers are more satisfied, and our robust and resilient offerings are more relevant than ever in today’s hyper-digital societies and complex geopolitical situation.

"We have momentum, and we are committed to improving performance further and addressing challenges in Finland and Norway, creating an even simpler, faster, and more efficient Telia."
