Swedish telco Telia Company plans to cut up to 600 jobs during the first quarter of this year.

As reported by several Nordic-based publications, including TV4, Telia has informed employees of the layoffs.

The layoffs are set to impact around 215 jobs in Sweden, plus 280 roles in Finland. Details around the remaining layoffs were not reported.

Telia employs more than 16,000 people across the Nordic and Baltic region.

"The change comes as our local markets and units review how they can increase efficiency and competitiveness and continue to develop Telia to be easier to work with, faster to meet customer needs, and more efficient, which contributes to profitable growth," Tobias Gyhlénius, communications manager, Telia, noted in an email to TV4.

The planned cuts come just over a year after Telia laid off 3,000 workers in December 2024. Those cuts equated to around 15 percent of its workforce.

Telia operates in Sweden, Finland, Norway, plus the Baltic nations of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

The reports continue the trend of mobile operators slimming down their workforce, with Swiss telco Sunrise announcing plans last week to cut up to 190 roles.

Several telcos outlined plans to cut jobs last year, including Finland's Elisa, which confirmed last month that 357 jobs will be made redundant.
