STL has launched what it claims to be India's first hollow core fiber (HCF) cable.
The connectivity solutions provider has developed and manufactured HCF technology in India.
HCF is tipped to meet the low-latency and high-bandwidth requirements of modern data centers, hyperscalers, and high-frequency transmission networks, while some quarters say HCF represents the next revolution in optical networking.
Hollow core fiber is different from traditional fiber in terms of its design. Rather than featuring a glass core, it has a hollow space in the middle through which light is transmitted. Because of this, signals are able to travel significantly quicker through the fiber.
Inside the hollow, HCF features an air-filled center channel that is surrounded by a ring of tubes, akin to a honeycomb pattern. The design allows for higher capacity with minimized chromatic dispersion. The only glass involved is on the outside structure of the cable itself.
STL claims that its HCF has been able to deliver 46 percent faster, reducing latency and signal loss.
The company noted that it was able to create the cable via a unique hybrid cable architecture, which it said includes a G.654.E fiber that is optimized for ultra-low loss and large effective areas in long-haul transmissions, plus a G.657.A1 NOVA, which it said enables versatility and broad network coverage.
