American Airlines has confirmed plans to install Starlink's satellite broadband Internet service across more than 500 narrowbody aircraft beginning in Q1 2027.
This offering will cover the American Airlines Airbus fleet, which includes the new A321XLR and A321neo aircraft.
The airline carrier noted that Starlink’s Aero Terminal delivers up to 1Gbps per antenna, allowing passengers onboard to stream, browse, and use real-time communication capabilities across American’s domestic and short-haul international routes.
American Airlines partnership with SpaceX's Starlink builds on an in-flight WiFi deal with mobile carrier AT&T signed last year.
The company currently provides Viasat high-speed satellite Internet on a large portion of its mainline and regional fleet.
"Starlink’s high speed and low latency make the WiFi more reliable, which matters when customers are trying to load pages, join real-time collaboration tools, or stay connected consistently throughout a flight. We are excited to bring an at-home level of WiFi experience to our narrowbody fleet, enabling our customers to work, game, stream, and scroll endlessly," said Heather Garboden, chief customer officer, American Airlines.
Starlink has struck similar partnerships with a number of airlines in the past couple of years.
Some of these partnerships include British Airways, United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and Air France.
As of May 2026, Starlink has more than 10,000 of its satellites in orbit.
