Amazon has acquired a large plot of land outside Austin, Texas.

Citing local property records, BizJournals reports the company has acquired 1,300 acres near Cedar Creek in Bastrop County. The land is located off State Highway 21 West, some 30 miles southeast of Austin.

The deal was made through Amazon Data Services, the unit through which Amazon does most of its data center dealings, and closed earlier this month.

Amazon didn’t reply to BJ’s request for comment around the purchase or its plans for the site.

The land was previously owned by CTX Capital Partners and largely earmarked for residential development as part of a new master planned community known as Creekside.

EdgeConneX is known to be developing a campus in Cedar Creek, some seven miles north of Amazon’s site at 8001 Wolf Lane.

Plans for another campus in Bastrop County were filed in 2023, though it is unclear if the project ever got underway.

Amazon has several data centers in operation and development across Texas. The company has a footprint in San Antonio and previously filed to develop in DeSoto, outside of Dallas.

Earlier this year, the firm filed to potentially develop a large campus next to Vistra’s Comanche nuclear plant outside Fort Worth.
