The US Department of Defense (DoD, stylized as the Department of War) has published an advance notice revealing its intention to develop a mission-critical command and control center and data center for the US Space Command.

Published on Sam.Gov on October 13, the notice states that the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC) is seeking a Design-Build Contractor (DBC) for the command and control facility (C2F) project, which will be responsible for the design, construction, fit-out, commissioning, and accreditation of what is being called the USSPACECOM C2F.

The 700,000 sq ft (65,030 sqm) facility will be located on 64 acres at the Redstone Arsenal Army base in Alabama.

According to the notice, the mission-critical facility and its supporting data center will be required to support approximately 1,800 personnel and are expected to cost approximately $4bn to design, build, fit out, commission, accredit, and install fixtures, furniture, and equipment.

Details about the expected size of the facility and data center have yet to be provided.

The command and control center will need to feature radio frequency shielding, high-altitude electromagnetic pulse protection, a sensitive compartmented information facility, and redundant and resilient infrastructure.

The company that wins the contract will have until December 2031 to deliver the facility.

Applicants must be US-based organizations and have demonstrated success on projects of this scale as well as Top Secret Facility Security clearance. Applications are due by December 15, 2026.

Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is a US Army base in Madison County. It is home to more than 75 tenant agencies, including the US Space Command, NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, and the FBI. The site is used as the center of testing and development for the Army's missile programs.

The US Space Command is responsible for military operations in outer space, reestablished in 2019 with a focus on warfighting.

The relocation of US Space Command headquarters from Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Redstone Arsenal has been in the works since 2021. After various delays, in 2025, President Donald Trump announced the move was happening and would be completed by 2032.
