Spanish AI firm Substrate AI plans to build a data center outside Toledo.
The company this week announced it aims to develop a 10MW facility on a 25,000 sqm (269,095 sq ft) site at the Torrehierro industrial estate in Talavera de la Reina that will host Nvidia GPU hardware, including NVL72 racks.
Substrate will invest €100 million ($102.3m) in the project, financed partly through a €19.4 million grant from the Junta de Castilla la Mancha and several international funds.
"This data center will be able to offer all the capacity needed to train and operate new AI models in Spain and therefore within the European Union,” said José Iván García CEO of Substrate AI.
“This will allow us to offer all the AI services that the great transformation of the economy needs, but taking into account data governance. In addition, we will be able to create new LLMs like the one we have created for compliance, boosting the sovereignty of artificial intelligence and offering on-premise models for companies and governments, a service that will explode in the near future.”
Substrate AI is a Spanish AI company listed on BME Growth, OTC Market, and London's Aquis, focused on founding, buying, and scaling AI companies. It said the data center will help develop large language models through its Serenity Star unit.
Meta is also developing a data center in Talavera de la Reina.
