SpaceX has submitted a trademark application for Starlink Mobile.

As reported by Bloomberg, Elon Musk's SpaceX submitted the filing with the US Patent and Trademark Office on October 16.

The filing suggests that Starlink could push to establish a mobile carrier via its satellite network.

SpaceX's application cites telecommunications services, namely personal cellular services, and two-way transmission of text, voice, and audio.

SpaceX recently announced an agreement to acquire $17 billion worth of spectrum from EchoStar, which itself had ambitions to become a fourth mobile carrier in the US, via its subsidiary Dish Wireless.

Musk has previously suggested that Starlink could look to become a mobile carrier.

When asked whether Starlink could become a global carrier that provides satellite-based cellular services worldwide, Musk noted that it was a possibility.

“That would be one of the options,” Musk said on the All-in-Podcast in September.

SpaceX currently works with T-Mobile to offer Starlink connectivity to customers in the US, with T-Mobile launching the service nationwide in July.

T-Mobile's D2D service allows customers to connect their smartphone automatically to a constellation of more than 650 low Earth orbit Starlink satellites.

The launch of the service builds on the partnership between T-Mobile and Elon Musk's SpaceX, which first announced plans to cover dead spots from space nearly three years ago.
