Singtel's sovereign AI cloud business RE:AI is teaming up with Mistral AI to increase sovereign AI capabilities in Singapore.
The two companies are targeting a variety of sectors, including financial services, defense, government, and healthcare.
RE:AI will provide its GPU fleet to the initiative and co-develop with Mistral an "advanced AI infrastructure" using Mistral AI's stack to provide a multi-tenant GPU-as-a-Service and AI-as-a-Service offering.
The GPUs will be housed in Nxera data centers, Singtel's data center arm.
While enabling RE:AI to offer Mistral's technology to enterprises and public sector customers, Mistral AI will also be using RE:AI's cloud infrastructure to roll out compute offerings for internal use.
Bill Chang, CEO of Singtel's Digital InfraCo unit, said: “As sovereign AI initiatives accelerate across the public and private sectors in the region, our digital infrastructure and AI cloud provide the secure, scalable environment needed to drive adoption and unlock greater innovation. Collaborating with AI leaders like Mistral AI furthers our mission to make AI easily accessible, giving our customers flexibility and choice while meeting their data governance and security requirements. Enhancing our sovereign AI capabilities will also reinforce Singapore’s position as a trusted hub for digital growth and AI innovation.”
Arthur Mensch, CEO and co-founder of Mistral AI, added: “We are proud to partner with Singtel’s RE:AI, whose AI infrastructure and regional leadership make them an ideal ally to drive scalable AI adoption. Together, we will empower enterprises to deploy high-performance, secure AI solutions, accelerating Singapore’s vision as a global AI hub while delivering tangible ROI for industries.”
Singtel's Nxera launched a data center in Singapore - DC Tuas - earlier this year. The data center has a capacity of 58MW and is the company's largest facility in the country.
Although Singtel is closing a number of small legacy data centers in Singapore, it still operates several large facilities in the city-state through its Nxera unit.
Singtel, along with KKR, recently acquired a majority stake in APAC data center STT GDC.
Mistral AI is a French AI lab. Last month, the company raised $830 million in debt financing to fund the purchase of GPUs for its planned data center outside Paris. That data center is owned and run by French data center firm Eclairion. The company also leases GPUs from French AI cloud provider Scaleway, and has previously signed a deal with EcoDataCenter to install AI infrastructure at the colo firm’s data centers in Sweden.
