US-based Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) has signed a multi-year agreement with Google Public Sector for the use of Google Distributed Cloud (GDC).
GDC is Google's on-premise offering, bringing Google Cloud hardware to an organization's data center. The first version of GDC was launched in 2021, with the cloud provider introducing the air-gapped offering in the summer of 2024, which enables Google Cloud services to be accessed even without access to the Internet.
According to SAIC, deploying GDC will enable the company to integrate Google Cloud AI services with its technology provided to its defense, intelligence, space, and civilian customers.
“SAIC is excited to join forces with Google Public Sector to drive AI at the Edge solutions for our nation's critical missions,” said Lauren Knausenberger, executive vice president and chief innovation officer of SAIC.
Jan Niemiec, managing director of national security at Google Public Sector, added: “This alliance with SAIC marks a significant step forward in empowering the public sector to leverage the transformative power of AI and cloud technologies.
"By combining Google Cloud's innovative solutions with SAIC's deep understanding of the federal landscape, we can accelerate AI adoption, enhance mission outcomes, and drive greater efficiency for agencies across the government."
According to SAIC, GDC was selected due to its ability to meet specialized requirements such as low latency, high bandwidth, data residency, rugged hardware, and compliance for confidential data while offering secure and scalable AI solutions.
In addition to using GDC, SAIC will train 1,000 employees in Google Cloud technology over the course of the agreement.
SAIC offers IT and technology services across the defense, space, civilian, and intelligence market. The company is headquartered in Reston, Virginia.
This year so far has seen GDC adopted by the German armed forces, and Singapore's Home Team Science and Technology Agency.
SAIC previously managed NASA's Center for Critical Information Processing and Storage.
