Samsung Electronics has signed on as a colocation customer at a Digital Realty data center in Seoul, South Korea.

Samsung Electronics, the electronics manufacturing arm of South Korean conglomerate Samsung, will be hosting its enterprise IT workloads at Digital Realty's ICN10 colocation data center in Sangam Digital Media City.

The value of the agreement and the amount of capacity set to be leased have not been shared.

“Providing enterprise-grade infrastructure at ICN10 reflects Digital Realty’s ability to support large-scale customer environments in Korea,” said Chris Han, head of Korea at Digital Realty. “We remain committed to delivering stable, high-performance infrastructure that meets the operational needs of global enterprises.”

ICN10 has been operated by Digital Realty since 2022. The data center offers up to 12MW of IT capacity across 132,000 sq ft (12,265 sqm) of floorspace.

The colocation provider first announced plans for the facility in 2019, breaking ground on the facility in June 2020. It was originally planned to go live in 2021.

In 2021, Digital Realty announced plans for a second data center in South Korea, known as Digital Seoul 2 (ICN11). The 64MW facility would span almost 1 million sq ft (92,903 sqm) and was due to come online by the first half of 2023, though as yet it is not listed on Digital Realty's website.

Samsung has its own cloud and data center unit, known as Samsung SDS, which operates a number of facilities across South Korea.
