First reported by Interfax, Vyacheslav Tsyganov said: “Despite the fact that now everyone is saying it is not the best time for investments, …we will build our own network of data centers.

“We will do it again in our own way, we will do it differently from everyone else.”

He added that the company plans to use free cooling for its facilities. Other specifications and plans were not shared, but the first facility is expected to launch in 2027.

The ‘network’ of facilities is not expected to be complete until 2031.

T-Bank has up till now leased data center space. The company has now created a legal entity named T-TsOD-2 for its IT operations.

Founded in Moscow in 2006, T-Bank is one of the largest credit card providers in Russia. Formerly known as Tinkoff Bank, its credit rating was withdrawn in 2022 following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

T-Bank is expected to merge with Rosbank after TCS Holding acquired the latter in August this year. The merger is expected to close in Q1 2025.

Sberbank, another Russian financial institution, operates a number of data centers. It previously owned a cloud computing division, SberCloud.
