Prime Data Centers has topped out the first data center building at its new Chicago campus in Illinois.
“Prime is officially topped out in Chicago!” the company said on LinkedIn last week. “Thanks to the 150+ people who stopped by to help us commemorate the milestone.”
The company broke ground on the 30-acre campus at 1600 East Higgins Road in Elk Grove Village in late 2022.
First announced in September 2021, the Prime ORD campus will deliver more than 750,000 sq ft (96,700 sqm) and 180MW of capacity at full build-out at full build-out.
ORD01-01 is the first of three planned buildings and will be marketed as a single-tenant hyperscale data center. The 384,000 sq ft (35,700 sqm) building will deliver 200,000 sq ft (18,580 sqm) of data hall space and up to 72MW across three stories.
Two more three-story buildings are planned, though the planned specifications have changed since the first building’s groundbreaking. ORD01-02 will offer 54MW across 354,000 sq ft (32,880 sqm). ORD01-03 will offer 54MW across 224,975 sq ft (20,890 sqm). Timelines for completion haven’t been shared.
Elk Grove Village originally sold 17.5 acres of land to the company in 2021 for a reported $21.3 million.
Prime's current portfolio is largely centered in the US around California, with campuses also in development in Dallas, Texas; and Phoenix, Arizona. The company announced plans to move into Europe last year with a three-building, 124MW campus in Saeby, in northern Denmark. A 40MW site is also planned in Madrid, Spain.
