Property developer Central Energy Group (CGE) has announced plans for a 260MW AI data center in the city of Konin in central Poland.

The facility is expected to cost €3 billion ($3.5bn). CGE has obtained the requisite power connection and environmental permits for the project, as reported by Konin Naszemiasto.

Though the local municipality has not yet granted building permits, construction is expected to commence in 2027 after an additional strategic investor is confirmed.

“The project also includes additional, optional renewable energy sources with a capacity of several hundred megawatts and energy storage facilities,” a spokesperson from CGE told DCD. “These assets, located near the data center, will also receive building permits soon.”

Built in partnership with real estate consultants Jones Lang LaSalle, the data center will be constructed in stages near a retail park in the north of the city and powered by a combination of nearby solar energy plants, a coal-fired plant, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

A district heating network siphoning waste heat from the facility’s server rooms is also planned. A recent public roundtable of stakeholders in the city’s heating network, however, raised the possibility that the latter system may not be required amid declining heating demand in the winter months.

CGE is a renewable energy developer headquartered in Posada, a village north of Konin.

The firm currently owns a 2MW solar plant and an 18MW onshore wind farm outside the central Polish villages of Rychwał and Kraśnica, respectively.

If constructed, the data center outside Konin will join a string of huge data center projects announced across Poland in recent months, including a 3.4GW facility run by WBS Power in Choczewo in its Pomeranian Voivodeship and a 500MW campus outside the village of Bełchatów in the Łódź Voivodeship.
