A 500MW data center campus has been announced as part of a wider industrial zone planned for the village of Domiechowice in Bełchatów Commune, central Poland.

Currently known as the Hyperscale Data Center Bełchatów, the site will cover 50 hectares (123 acres) and will become Eastern Europe’s largest such facility. Though the project is in its early planning stages, Bełchatów Commune’s mayor confirmed that advanced discussions are underway between the local government and a prospective investor in the industrial zone.

DCD has approached Bełchatów Commune for comment.

“Planning work is underway to prepare the zone in Domiechowice, covering an area of ​​over 50 hectares,” said the commune’s mayor, Konrad Koc, in a statement. “This is no longer a matter of wishful thinking; the industrial zone in Domiechowice is taking shape. This is especially true now that we have an entity preparing to invest in the area.”

Applications to build the new data center campus were received by the commune in 2024, according to Portal Samorzadowy, with plans by the local authority to connect the site to the nearby road system now well underway. The facility itself will house servers designed to support ‘data processing and related equipment necessary to provide scalable and high-performance IT services for AI,’ according to a statement by the Polish government.

The hyperscale facility is likely to be powered by the nearby coal-fired Bełchatów Power Station, labeled ‘Europe’s dirtiest’ by Bloomberg in 2023.

Poland’s data center sector has maintained a compound annual growth rate of 19.8 percent since 2020, according to the Polish Data Center Association. Recent months have seen several major projects announced in the country, including Cisco’s construction of a 4MW facility in Kraków, a 50MW site to be built by DL Invest Group in Bielsko-Biała, and a 130MW data center southeast of Warsaw to be developed by Hillwood.
