European renewable energy developer WBS Power has announced plans for a new gigawatt-scale data center outside the village of Choczewo, in Poland’s Pomeranian Voivodeship.

Known as the Baltic Data Center Campus, the 3.2GW facility will be the largest of its kind in Poland and one of the biggest in Eastern Europe.

WBS Power said in a statement that the project will be built in 800MW stages, with Phase I costing an estimated €6.9-€8.6 billion ($8-$10bn). Power for the site will be sourced from the nearby Choczewo Power Station.

DCD has approached WBS Power for comment.

“We will definitely want to contract up to 40 percent of our electricity from renewable energy sources (RES) through PPA contracts,” the company’s CEO, Maciej Marcjanik, told WNP.pl. “We will supplement the rest with grid consumption. Unfortunately, given the scale of the project and the renewable energy capacity in Poland, we are unable to secure our supply solely from green energy.”

If approved, the project will see several hundred people employed during construction, with 200-300 staff employed after the facility becomes operational. WBS Power added, however, that construction remains contingent on formal planning approval from the regional authorities, which must include an amendment to the local zoning plan and the acquisition of an environmental permit.

Crucial components, including the facility’s transformers, also need to be secured, along with a “final investor who will provide the technology [for the site], including servers,” said WBS Power’s CFO Hubert Bojdo.

The firm also appears to be undecided on whether the Choczewo data center will include a waste heat reuse scheme for the local community, and on the type of emergency power supply and cooling equipment available in the facility. For now, said Marcjanik, WBS Power’s inclination toward incorporating sustainable technology into the data center’s design “points to the cooling … being closed loop, so as not to draw water from the surrounding area.”

WBS Power is an offshoot of the Polish renewable energy firm PST Solartechnik. The Choczewo site will not be its first foray into the data center sector. In December 2025, WBS Power formed a joint venture with Prime Capital to develop a 500MW facility in Brandenburg, Germany. That scheme, known as ‘Project Jupiter,’ will include a 500MW/2,000MWh battery energy storage project (BESS) and cost an estimated €500 million ($583.2m).

Choczewo is a village in Wejherowo County in the north of Poland, some 75km northwest of Gdansk and close to the country's Baltic Sea coastline.
