French telco Orange is in exclusive talks with Verdoso over the sale of its broadcast unit Globecast.

It comes a few months after reports that Orange was looking to offload the unit, which has previously broadcast video streams for TV platforms during events such as the Tour de France and the 2024 Olympic Games.

The unit generates revenues of just over €200 million ($230m) for the telco, while it has around 200 employees.

Globecast was launched in 2001 and leverages a hybrid infrastructure combining satellite, fiber, and IP to offer a range of end-to-end managed services.

But the telco is pushing for a sale of Globecast as it looks to focus on its core telecoms business.

Orange didn't provide a valuation of Globecast, but noted that Verdoso would "provide Globecast with a reference shareholder capable of supporting the company in the rollout of its next generation offers and strengthening its position in a structurally shifting market."

French investment company Verdoso specializes in carving out majority stakes in mid-sized companies undergoing transformation.

Orange said a potential deal could be finalized by the end of the year.

Last month, Orange CEO Christel Heydemann stated that the telco would become a simple, more efficient company as part of its five-year strategy. As part of this strategy, the carrier said it will push to cash-in on its infrastructure.

Despite reports last year that Orange was looking to sell parts of its data center business, the telco's wholesale CEO, Michaël Trabbia, told DCD earlier this month during MWC that the company isn't interested in selling these assets.
