Finnish network vendor Nokia is set to cut 253 jobs in its home market.
That is according to a report from Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, which reports that Nokia has informed staff of the planned cuts.
The cuts are set to impact employees at Nokia's main HQ in Espoo, plus Tampere and Oulu.
It represents further job cuts at Nokia, following separate plans to cut 121 jobs in Finland earlier this year.
Helsingin Sanomat reports that negotiations for changes will begin next Monday (October 12). At present, Nokia employs 6,800 people in Finland.
"In Finland, our intention is to continue to invest in strategically important areas, including, for example, the defense sector and the opportunities brought by artificial intelligence and data centers," said Mikko Hautala, Nokia's country manager for Finland, in an email to employees.
"The changes we are planning are not easy, and they will not be implemented lightly. However, they are necessary to secure our competitiveness in a rapidly changing operating environment," he added.
The cuts are based on the cost-savings program put forward by Nokia back in 2023, when the vendor revealed plans to axe 14,000 jobs by 2026 in an effort to reduce costs and save between €800 million ($935m) and €1.2 billion ($1.4bn).
Those cuts have impacted Nokia's workforce across Europe, North America, and China.
As of last year, Nokia had around 78,000 employees globally. DCD has contacted Nokia for comment on the report.
