Oracle Corporation reportedly started a round of job cuts this month, with the cloud unit hit particularly hard.
According to a report by Channel Futures, several hundred employees within the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) unit have been laid off.
Channel Futures noted that the exact figures are unclear, with TheLayOff.com seeing comments that only around 15 people - 0.1 percent of OCI's workforce - were to be laid off, others are claiming the number is much higher.
On Blind, a commenter suggested the number is actually in the hundreds, and that the company is seeking to replace senior employees and hire those with less experience for a lower cost.
According to Channel Futures, the layoffs are localized to the US.
DCD has reached out to Oracle for comment.
Cyclical layoffs within the tech industry are extremely common. Earlier this year, Google and Microsoft were reportedly laying off hundreds from their cloud computing units.
Oracle was previously reported as making layoffs in 2022, when the company cut more than 200 California-based jobs just months after plans were released for $1 billion in cost-cutting initiatives, expected to see thousands of layoffs.
In 2020 the company was said to be sacking as many as 1,300 people in Europe.
