NTT Data has selected Oracle Alloy to enhance its sovereign cloud services in Japan.
NTT will deploy Oracle Alloy in its data centers, giving customers access to more than 150 Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services, including its artificial intelligence (AI) offerings.
Oracle Alloy will be in two of NTT's data centers in Japan and will be used to expand its OpenCanvas sovereign cloud. The addition of OCI services will be available via the OpenCanvas Japan East region by December 2025, and Japan West region by March 2027.
“The aim of our data center strategy is to meet new demands for cloud and data utilization, including new on-premises and sovereign requirements, and Oracle Alloy plays an extremely important role in this,” said Hiroshi Tomiyasu, director and executive vice president, NTT Data Japan.
“As a global solutions provider, NTT Data Japan is also looking to expand its presence overseas and is committed to helping its Japanese customers strengthen their global competitiveness by providing cloud services enhanced with Oracle Alloy to facilitate the migration to the cloud and secure use of data to meet data sovereignty requirements.
OpenCanvas will continue to offer its own custom cloud services, and in the future, NTT Data will look at using other NTT Group technologies including the IOWN (Innovative Optical and Wireless Network) initiative, and the large language model (LLM) called “tsuzumi.”

Earlier this year, Oracle committed to investing $8 billion in cloud computing and AI infrastructure in Japan. This will include expanding its operations across Japan, from supporting Japanese engineering teams in addressing digital sovereignty requirements to increasing customer support in its cloud regions in Tokyo and Osaka.
NTT GDC has two data centers in Japan: Tokyo 11 and Osaka 7. In 2022 the company announced plans to build a 30MW data center in the Kansai region of the country, last year announced plans for another around Tokyo.
NTT Data operates several other facilities across Japan including Tokyo (five), Osaka, Aichi, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka.
