Malaysian real estate firm AME Elite has sold a plot of land in Johor to a data center firm.
The company this week announced it has sold 35 acres of land in the i-TechValley for RM210.3 million ($2.5 million) to Digital Hyperspace Malaysia SDN BHD.
Two AME wholly-owned subsidiaries, Pentagon and Greenhill, this month entered into a conditional sale and purchase agreement for the proposed sale of a total of 11 plots of freehold industrial land in the Pulai area of Johor Bahru.
Founded this year, DHM is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Quantum DC (HK) Limited. It is described as principally involved in providing infrastructure for hosting, data processing services, and related activities. The directors of DHM are listed as Song Minghe and Tan Yong Sern.
A company known as Digital Hyperspace broke ground on a data center in Jakarta, Indonesia, last year. The company is working with China Telecom and Global Telecom Capital Fund, a JV fund sponsored by China Telecom, CNIC, and New World Development. The first phase of its campus will offer 20MW on a 68,000 sqm (731,945 sq ft) campus – due to launch in Q4 – potentially expandable to 80MW. The company’s website doesn’t include any mentions of a planned campus in Johor.
AME acquired the land for RM89.228 million ($1.1 million) in December 2020 as part of its 170-acre i-TechValley industrial park at the Southern Industrial and Logistics Cluster (SILC). The sale is set to close in Q1 2025.
Johor, located in Malaysia’s south, is just across the border from Singapore. Though Singapore is starting to ease restrictions around its ongoing moratorium on new data center developments, Johor has grown a sizeable data center market of its own as developments overspill from the city-state.
Other developers and operators in Johor include PDG, AirTrunk, Equinix, Keppel, ChinData's Bridge DC, Microsoft, and Yondr.
