Malaysian property developer IOI Properties Group has sold 136 acres of land in one of its industrial parks to Singapore’s Bridge Data Centers for the construction of a data center campus.
The industrial park – called IOI Industrial Park @ Banting – is located in Banting, a town in the western peninsular state of Selangor.
Selangor surrounds Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur, and the area is known as a colocation and cloud hub in contrast to Johor, which is where most of Malaysia’s hyperscale facilities are set to be built.
According to IOI, the land was sold for RM740.68m ($187m).
Details about the campus’ capacity, power source, and total floor area were not made available.
According to the industrial park’s website, the site’s masterplan includes unspecified power production units, steam supply units, and process energy infrastructure. It is also connected to two power transmission lines.
IOI Properties Group has a presence in Malaysia, Singapore, and Xiamen, China, and it specializes in property development and investment. It owns and manages a series of malls, hotels, and other leisure facilities like a country resort and a golf course.
The Bain Capital-owned Bridge DC is a prominent data center player in Malaysia and the APAC region.
Although headquartered in Singapore, most of Bridge’s data centers are in Malaysia – it currently operates two facilities in Cyberjaya, a planned city outside of Kuala Lumpur, with a third in development, and it launched a data center outside Johor in 2022.
