Intermarket Properties, a Canadian real estate management and development company, is looking to build a data center in Cambridge, to the southwest of Toronto, Canada.
The Waterloo Corporate Campus (WCC), located in Ontario, is a 40-acre phased mixed-use redevelopment consisting of 135,000 sq ft of retail, 130,000 sq ft of office space and what was previously billed as a 60,000 sq ft data center.
Construct Connect, however, suggests plans for the facility have changed, with Intermarket now working through site plan approval (SPA) for a 100,000 sq ft data center with construction scheduled to begin towards the end of the year.
Intermarket said three of its sites were already acquired – with new tenants including a nanotechnology company and a solar firm – while work on an 85,000 sq ft industrial building focused on Advanced Manufacturing and Robotics is due to begin soon.
“We are seeing a lot of interest in IP Park because manufacturers want to bring their supply chain back to Canada,” said Mark Kindrachuk, President of Intermarket. “In addition, because of Covid-19, there is a tremendous increase in eCommerce, robotics, and digital streaming; and this bodes well for our industrial and data center buildings.”
