India's Adani Group is set to invest up to $5 billion in a Google data center campus in Visakhapatnam, located in southern India.
Bloomberg reports that CFO Jugeshinder Singh mentioned the investment to reporters last Friday without providing much detail.
The Adani Group is involved in the development of the gigawatt-scale Google campus through AdaniConneX, its data center joint venture with established operator EdgeConneX.
It was said at the time that the campus would be India’s largest, requiring $15 billion worth of investment over a five-year period starting in 2026.
The Adani Group is one of India’s biggest conglomerates, with interests in ports, power, mining, energy, infrastructure, and more.
Indian companies, both big and small, have been willing to bet on the country’s growing appetite for AI and data centers.
Rival conglomerate Tata announced earlier last month that it had officially launched a business entity – HyperVault AI Data Center Limited – to conduct its 1GW data center buildout.
Last week, Indian media firm Adhikari Brothers announced that it was pivoting towards data centers despite its inexperience in the field, proposing plans to set up a 50MW facility in the southern Indian state of Telangana.
India’s data center pipeline is much larger than its current capacity. According to DC Byte, as of April 2025, the country only offers 1.2GW of live capacity in comparison to the 7.7GW worth of data centers under construction, committed, and in their early stages, with the latter category constituting 57 percent of the country’s total supply.
