Canadian wealth and asset management company IGM Financial has completed a data center migration project to the public cloud.
Assisted by Atos, IGM is now using Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for its operations.
The migration from a legacy data center to the cloud will enable IGM to scale resources instantly, enabling it to test and introduce new applications and services without investing in new physical infrastructure.
“The successful delivery of the data center migration to the public cloud underscores Atos’ proven ability to execute highly complex and mission-critical migration projects with precision,” said Ed Nemes, head of Canada at Atos Group.
Sam Burns, CIO of IGM Financial, said: “This achievement marks a significant milestone in our ongoing digital transformation journey that enables us to better serve the financial needs of Canadians while also improving the employee and advisor experience.”
IGM plans to use technologies including AI, machine learning, and IoT in the cloud.
Information about IGM's previous or current data center footprint has not been shared. DCD has reached out for more details.
The asset manager has been working with Microsoft since at least 2022, when it signed a cloud computing agreement with the company, and with Google since 2019, when it chose GCP to manage its data platform as part of a five-year "transformation" effort that launched in 2018. It has also previously worked with CGI on mutual fund transfer agency platforms in Canada.
Atos has long-standing relationships with Microsoft and Google, enabling the company to assist with migration projects to their respective cloud platforms.
Atos and IGM signed the cloud migration contract in April 2024, which was set to last for one year.
Microsoft has two cloud regions in Canada, located in Toronto and Quebec, though only the Toronto region has Availability Zone support. GCP also has two regions in the country, located in Montreal and Toronto.
