Alibaba Cloud has launched a third data center in South Korea.

The latest addition to its South Korean cloud region comes a little more than a year after adding a second data center location.

Where in the country the data centers are located has not been shared, though most of South Korea's data centers are located in and around the capital city, Seoul.

As part of the company's $53bn commitment to its global cloud footprint, the data center will significantly expand Alibaba's capacity in South Korea.

Alibaba Cloud has had a presence in the country since 2016, originally offering cloud and digital transformation services to enterprises and then launching its first data center in 2022.

The region will offer an array of cloud services, including compute, storage, networking, security, and databases, as well as AI offerings.

“South Korea is a key market where Alibaba Cloud has continued to make long-term investments,” said Yongjoon Yoon, country manager of South Korea, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence. “The third data center is not merely an infrastructure expansion. It is an investment to help South Korean enterprises operate AI and cloud-based services more reliably. Alibaba Cloud will continue to support the digital transformation of South Korean businesses with robust, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure and AI services.”

Outside of South Korea, recent new locations Alibaba has added include France, Japan, Malaysia, and Mexico. The company now has 104 availability zones across 30 regions.
