Alibaba Cloud has launched a cloud region in France.

Housed in data centers in Paris, it is the Chinese cloud company's third European location, following Germany and the UK.

The cloud region comprises two availability zones.

With the launch, Alibaba now has 105 availability zones across 32 regions globally.

According to the company, the cloud region has been built with "strict data privacy and sovereignty in mind" to ensure that the infrastructure adheres to "rigorous European regulatory frameworks and standards."

"The expansion of our cloud infrastructure into France reinforces our ongoing commitment to empowering European businesses with sovereign, secure, and intelligent solutions," said Dr. Feifei Li, CTO and president of international business of Alibaba Cloud. "This expansion, alongside the introduction of our agentic AI services to Europe, aligns with our broader strategy to bring our full-stack AI+Cloud ecosystem to global customers as we enter the agentic era.”

The company has not stated which data center operator it is partnering with in France.

Alibaba's first data center location in Europe was in Frankfurt, Germany, and launched in 2016. That data center was operated by Vodafone Germany. The company now has three locations in Germany. The company began offering its services in the UK in 2018 out of two London data centers.

The company has been undertaking a major global expansion initiative over the last year.

CEO Eddie Wu confirmed in June 2025 that the company intends to spend around $52.7 billion in establishing a "unified global cloud network," with the company later considering increasing this to $69bn.

Earlier this month, the company added a new two-availability-zone region in Johor, Malaysia, its second in the country.
