Google is set to begin work on its $15bn data center projects in Andhra Pradesh later this month.

As reported by the Economic Times Telecom, the land for the projects has been handed over to Google's subsidiary Raiden Infotech India Private Limited, and groundbreaking is expected for April 28, 2026.

Google officially confirmed its plans for Andhra Pradesh in October 2025, revealing that it would invest some $15 billion in data centers and other digital infrastructure and work with Indian firms AdaniConneX and Airtel to build an “AI hub” in the city of Visakhapatnam, on India's east coast. In December, Adani Group said it would invest up to $5bn in the campus.

According to ET, the project will have 1GW of capacity and will comprise three linked data center campuses in and around Visakhapatnam. Previously, it looked like the sites would span 120 acres in Adivivaram, 200 acres in Tarluvada, and 160 acres in the Rambilli–Achyutapuram cluster. An unnamed senior official has since said that this will actually be 160 acres, 266.6 acres, and 174.8 acres at each location, respectively.

Sources told the publication that the groundbreaking will be at either the Tarluvada or Rambilli site.

The data centers aim to be commissioned by July 2028 and will also see the installation and landing of three high-capacity submarine cables, dedicated cable landing stations, metro fiber lines, and other telecommunications infrastructure.

Google Cloud already operates cloud regions in India, including one in Mumbai, launched back in 2017, and another in Delhi in 2021. It is also planning to launch a sovereign AI cloud with Airtel Business this year. In Q4 2025, the India portion of Google's Blue Raman subsea cable is expected to go live, landing in the western city of Mumbai.

Andhra Pradesh is seeing growing data center interest. Recent months have seen reports that Digital Connexion will develop a 1GW data center in the state, and Meta is also reportedly looking to establish a 500MW data center in partnership with Sify Technologies.
