Indian data center joint venture Digital Connexion is set to build a gigawatt-scale campus in Andhra Pradesh, India.

The company, jointly owned by Digital Realty, Brookfield, and Reliance Industries, this week announced plans to invest $11 billion in developing a 1GW data center campus in Andhra Pradesh.

The company is developing a 400-acre site in Visakhapatnam (aka Vizag) out to 2030.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the company and the Andhra Pradesh government.

“We are building India’s next-generation digital infrastructure through AI-native, purpose-built data centers designed for unmatched performance and scalability. With our data centers, we are unlocking new possibilities towards driving innovation, impact, and sustainable growth, and [will] be the trusted digital infrastructure provider of India,” the company said.

Digital Realty and Brookfield originally launched what was then called BAM Digital Realty as a 50:50 joint venture in July 2021 with the aim of building and operating facilities in “multiple Indian metros." It was rebranded to Digital Connexion after Reliance joined the venture in 2023.

After breaking ground on a 100MW campus in Chennai in 2023, the first 20MW greenfield data center (MAA10) was launched last year. MAA10 spans 196,000 sq ft (18,208 sqm) across seven stories.

The company is also developing a 40MW facility in the Chandivali area of Mumbai, due to go live in Q2 2026.

Andhra Pradesh is seeing increasing data center activity. In October, Google confirmed it was working on a $15bn data center project in the state, and earlier this month, Anant Raj Cloud Private Limited (ARCPL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the State of Andhra Pradesh for a $507m data center project. Meta is reportedly set to partner with local provider Sify on a 500MW campus in the area.

DC Byte’s April 2025 report on India’s data center market shows that the majority of the country’s 8.9GW worth of data center supply is constituted by projects currently in their early stages, and a report published by JLL in November 2024 estimated that the country’s data center capacity would surge 66 percent by 2026.
