Google experienced a cloud outage after a power and cooling issue at one of its data centers in the Netherlands.

According to an incident report from the company, its Europe-West4 availability zone was impacted for a total of 14 hours and 55 minutes starting on July 15 at 16:39 PST.

Services impacted include Google Cloud VMware Engine, Bare Metal Solution, and Google Cloud NetApp Volumes, all of which were resolved by 16 July 07:34 PST.

The incident report states that the issues were related to a "loss of utility power and subsequent cooling capacity."

"An electrical fault occurred on the utility grid upstream of the data center, disrupting the electrical distribution gear and cooling equipment. The loss of cooling infrastructure resulted in ambient temperatures rising rapidly within the affected data halls. Host servers, storage clusters, and network switches were shut down to prevent equipment damages due to the extreme heat," it added.

Google operates a number of data centers in the Netherlands. It opened the latest facility in the country in Winschoten, Groningen, in November 2025. It also has data centers in Eemshaven, which opened in 2018, and Middenmeer, which opened in 2020. The company has also bought land at the Westpoort industrial estate located west of Hoogkerk, in the municipality of Groningen, for a data center, which broke ground in April 2024.

The cloud and search giant experienced issues at its India cloud regions after a fire at a third-party data center in June of this year. The fire, at a facility operated by STT GDC/Tata, forced an "emergency power shutdown of networking equipment, isolating a non-compute local Point of Presence (POP) in Delhi and reducing available network capacity in the metro area," the company said.
