Ukrainian partisan armed movement group Atesh has confirmed that the group has attacked a communications tower near the village of Shebekino, Russia.

According to Atesh, via a Telegram post, the facility housed a repeater used by the Russian military to provide a stable signal, guidance, and control for drones.

Atesh claimed that the repeater has been essential for Shahid drones and other attack drones to maintain a link with the aircraft, transmit commands, and adjust course. Drones have been used by Russia to target Ukrainian communications infrastructure, including data centers and towers, in particular in recent weeks.

"Disabling the equipment reduced their range and disrupted communication stability. Drone operators are forced to seek new positions and reconfigure frequencies, which delays combat missions," said Atesh.

"Such strikes on infrastructure disrupt unmanned aerial vehicle coordination, disrupt Shahid flights, and force the enemy to expend resources on repairs and troubleshooting."

Atesh carried out similar attacks on Russian communications infrastructure earlier this year, including a comms tower in the Kursk region in January and a communications facility in the Belgorod region in February, followed by further attacks in August.

The group was founded in September 2022, created by Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars following Russia's military invasion of Ukraine. The group operates in the occupied territories of Ukraine.

Both sides have been targeting communications infrastructure during the war. Russia has launched multiple drone strikes against infrastructure in Ukraine, including an attack on Kyivstar’s headquarters.

Ukraine, for its part, has struck back with multiple attacks on Russian-owned digital infrastructure, including strikes on data centers owned by Yandex.
