A communications tower in Kursk, Russia, has reportedly been destroyed by Ukrainian military partisan movement Atesh.

A video posted by Atesh to its Telegram Channel on January 7 shows a figure carrying out what seems to be a sabotage operation, with the video ending as the tower catches on fire.

According to the post, the tower was used by “numerous Russian military and security structures deployed in the city.”

As the war between Ukraine and Russia drags on, Ukrainian forces have increasingly resorted to attacks inside Russia.

Ukrainians have used drone attacks to target factories and other forms of critical infrastructure. The most notable example, Operation Spiderweb, took place in June of last year, where drones smuggled into Russia were able to attack several air bases.

Russia has resorted to shutting off Internet services amid the increase in Ukraine drones, causing 654 intentional mobile data shutdowns in June 2025 alone.

Kursk is the administrative center of Kursk Oblast, which shares a border with Ukraine to its west.
